Passthrough fees

Last modified: ~2 min read

Update to Canadian Excise Tax Law, effective October 9, 2025 #

Starting October 9, 2025, changes to the Canadian Excise Tax Act mean that "Visa and Mastercard network and assessment fees (excluding interchange) will be subject to 13% GST/HST."

This tax will appear on remits as:

  • GST on Visa Assess Fee
  • GST on MC Assess Fee
  • GST on Visa Auth Fee
  • GST on MC Auth Fee

What are passthrough fees? #

Passthrough fees are charges that ASF collects and remits on behalf of credit card processors. These fees are not retained by ASF; they are passed directly to the appropriate entity as required.

Why are these fees applied? #

Certain transactions may require additional fees outside of your standard ASF subscription or service charges. By applying these fees automatically, ASF ensures that your club remains compliant with the requirements of the relevant authorities, without the need for extra work on your end.

How will fees appear? #

Fees will be calculated automatically on eligible transactions.

You will see one or multiple line items on your first remit of each month reflecting the passthrough fees applied during the previous month.
